French firm plans to deliver smart city applications for government offices, residents and utilities.
Orange Business Services signed a consulting deal with Qatari managed services provider Meeza to deliver smart services and applications at Msheireb Downtown Doha, a smart city initiative in Qatar.
Msheireb Downtown Doha is a “regeneration project” in the heart of the traditional center of Doha set to include a mix of residential, commercial offices, retail outlets and hotels. The district is scheduled for completion in six phases through 2018.
Orange Business Services is overseeing the design of the district’s Smart City Central Command Center, which controls the operation of buildings and services, including security cameras, building access control, fire alarms, street lighting, automated waste collection, car parks and public announcements. In addition, the French firm also designed and currently operates smart applications for the general public and residents available through a computer or mobile device. The applications include access to community services, directions and online payments.
The project also covers information and communication technology infrastructure for the district, which is managed by Meeza. This includes the network, management of two data centers, provisioning of IP telephony and management of desktops.
