The IoT agreement will allow the Middle East telco to connect to Ericsson’s DCP in Europe
Middle East telecom group Ooredoo has selected Swedish company Telia Carrier to provide internet of things (IoT) backhaul connectivity to Ericsson’s DCP platforms in Europe.
“Ooredoo is positioning itself as a leading internet of things provider across our regional footprint, offering the advanced solutions and powerful networks that enable businesses to launch a full range of smart services,” said Khalid Abdulla Al Mansouri, acting CEO, Ooredoo Global Services.
“Ooredoo is emerging as a leader in the smart city space,” says Matthew Jones, head of mobile solutions for Telia Carrier. “By connecting them directly to Ericsson’s Device Connectivity Platform, we can deliver the security and reliability they need to earn their customers’ trust.”
Headquartered in Qatar, Ooredoo operates in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia. The operator serves 138 million subscribers in ten markets.
Wipro joins the LoRa Alliance to accelerate global IoT deployments
In related news, Indian firm Wipro Limited has become a member of the LoRa Alliance.
This new membership will help the firm to accelerate its IoT)solution deployments, using Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology for customers across industry sectors such as energy, utilities, natural resources, smart cities, ports, and logistics.
The LoRa Alliance is an open, nonprofit association, with a mission to standardize the deployment of LPWAN technology across the world to enable IoT, machine-to-machine (M2M), smart city, and industrial applications. It was formed in 2015 by technology industry leaders, including Cisco, Semtech, IBM, and telecommunications majors.
“This alliance will help Wipro to deploy IoT solutions using LoRaWAN technology. LoRaWAN and LPWAN play a critical role by creating both public and private networks, which are essential for successful IoT deployments,” Anita Ganti, SVP and Global Head, Product Engineering Services, Wipro Limited, said.
“The ease of installation of the LoRaWAN™ network, in licensed exempt spectrum, will help us in solving connected engineering challenges to ensure uninterrupted connectivity for our -customers across the globe,” the executive added.
