ZTE launches new smart street solution

The LPWAN solution uses IoT, cloud computing and big data technologies.

ZTE announced its new smart street solution, dubbed “Smart Street 2.0. The solution was unveiled at the CeBIT exposition in Hannover, Germany, and is the second generation of ZTE’s low-powered wide area network solution designed to help city administrators transform public services.

The solution uses the internet of things, cloud computing and big data technologies, and integrates services such as smart parking and smart lighting, the vendor said.

The core of the Smart Street 2.0 solution is a centralized street command and control center, which acts as the main back-end hub for the street applications. It’s said to interact with smart street IoT infrastructure and collect data from various subsystems. It also uses the embedded intelligence of its big data analytics engine to interact via a smart phone application to provide notifications, guidance, navigation and smart routing information.

The system is also said to collect payment fees for smart parking as well as other fee collections, such as traffic violation ticket charges through online payment services.

The smart street lights operate based on factors such as the time of the day, natural light conditions and weather. Smart street LED displays can show weather, temperature, noise level and other information, and can also be used for displaying public information and advertisements.

“ZTE’s Smart Street 2.0 is an innovative solution for unified, intelligent and efficient street management and administration in the era of smart city,” said Yang Jun, VP of ZTE. “It modernizes the street fabric and transforms the obsolete mechanism of street administration by using LPWAN technologies to improve quality of public services. The solution integrates streets’ physical infrastructure to cut costs and improve management efficiency of municipal and city governments.
