The companies say the new IoT platform will allow enterprises to launch IoT through partnerships
China Telecom and Ericsson have launched the China Telecom IoT Open Platform, a global connection management platform to enable companies to accelerate the deployment of internet of things solutions and services.
The companies said the China Telecom IoT Open Platform enables enterprises to deploy, control and scale the management of IoT devices through partnerships. With this platform, enterprise customers can integrate their business processes with the managed connectivity service offered by China Telecom to create IoT solutions.
“The IoT market is growing very rapidly and we aim to use our expertise in this area to help our customers capitalize on this opportunity. Together with China Telecom, we can play a key role in realizing the tremendous potential of the IoT by reinventing processes, creating new services, and capturing new revenue,” Magnus Rahm, head of global service operations at Ericsson, said.
The China Telecom IoT Open Platform is powered by Ericsson’s device connection platform, which was launched in 2012 and now supports more than 25 operators and over 2,000 enterprise customers as part of Ericsson’s IoT accelerator platform.
China Telecom expands alliance with Hong Kong’s HKT to include IoT, M2M
In related news, China Telecom and Hong Kong operator HKT Limited confirmed they are extending their strategic partnership to collaborate in the deployment of a common internet of things open platform. This IoT platform will serve their respective customers throughout the combined geographical footprints of Mainland China and Hong Kong, the telcos said.
The partnership will allow customers from China Telecom and HKT to deploy IoT and machine-to-machine services using one another’s network.
China Telecom and HKT will cooperate both commercially and technically to create new service models in the IoT space. Under this agreement, HKT and China Telecom will be the preferred partner of each other for M2M connectivity in Hong Kong and China based on the DCP platform and ecosystem. Both companies have also agreed to jointly explore the potential of enhancing existing IoT capabilities and the application of new technologies such as NB-IoT and LTE-M in the global market.
“China Telecom has been working closely with HKT in multiple mobile businesses including roaming, MVNO and mobile payment. We are excited to extend our partnership to the IoT space with our newly launched IoT Open Platform,” Deng Xiao Feng, managing director of the global business department of China Telecom, said.
