The new IoT network uses Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless RF technology
Semtech Corporation, an U.S. supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, announced the expansion in China of a LoRaWAN-based IoT network using Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless RF technology.
The first stage will launch a test network spanning 23 kilometers across the Beilin district in central University City, Xi’an.
ThingPark China, the collaboration between French connectivity provider Actility and Ginko Ventures, Xi’an Beilin District Government and Shaanxi Radio and Television Network Group will work together to develop scalable LPWAN networks and interoperable IoT applications and services. Semtech said that the networks will be initially used for environmental monitoring and smart tracking.
“ThingPark China’s achievement of launching a LoRaWAN-based network in China with Semtech’s LoRa Technology will drive innovation and efficiency while transforming key markets, including cities and environment,” said Mike Mulica, CEO at Actility. “This network in Xi’an is the first step towards a global-scale cargo tracking and monitoring solution and all powered by the internet of things (IoT).”
“The adoption of a LoRaWAN-based network in China confirms the growth of Semtech’s LoRa Technology as a leading enabler to the IoT industry,” said Marc Pegulu, VP and general manager, wireless and sensing products group at Semtech. “Leveraging this technology will help China accelerate its IoT applications and begin to solve real-world challenges for a multiple of industries, including smart cities, smart metering and smart agriculture.”
Semtech said that its LoRa technology is a long-range, low-power solution for IoT that gives telecom companies, IoT application makers, and system integrators the feature set necessary to deploy low-cost, interoperable IoT networks, gateways, sensors, module products, and IoT services worldwide,
Headquartered in Beijing, ThingPark China is dedicated to building LPWA-based smart IoT platforms, as well as developing and promoting large-scale commercial applications of IoT in several industrial verticals. ThingPark China has an exclusive license for the ThingPark platform in China and Taiwan.
