The agreement with MESA will focus on interoperability, portability and security for the industrial internet
The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), a global organization seeking to accelerate the industrial internet of things (IIoT), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA).
Under the terms of the agreement, both entities agreed to work together to advance their shared interests. The MoU stipulates that the IIC and MESA, a not-for-profit organization comprised of manufacturing companies and information technology suppliers, will work together to align efforts to maximize interoperability, portability, security and privacy for the industrial internet.
Joint activities between the IIC and the MESA will include identifying and sharing IIoT best practices; realizing interoperability by harmonizing architecture and other elements; collaborating on standardization and collaboration in the areas of industrial analytics and asset performance management (APM).
“Within the manufacturing vertical, industrial analytics and asset intelligence systems enable manufacturers to realize the value of their industrial IoT systems by analyzing and acting on data to increase asset reliability and availability and reduce maintenance,” said Wael William Diab, IIC chair of the liaison working group. “Collaborating on industrial analytics and asset performance management will help to further advance industrial IoT in manufacturing environments.”
“This partnership makes good business sense, with the Industrial Internet Consortium advocating for the broad adoption of industrial Internet technologies and with MESA educating manufacturers and solution providers of all sizes on both how and why to adopt them,” MESA’s president, Mike Yost, said. “Collaborating with the IIC also helps ensure MESA members and IIC members have a common vocabulary and a common understanding of business value.”
The two entities also have agreed to meet regularly to exchange information and have targeted a joint workshop on industrial analytics and asset performance management for the last quarter of this year.
Earlier this month, the IIC signed an agreement with the Edge Computing Consortium (ECC) to partner on shared interests of advancing the industrial internet and edge computing. Under the agreement, the consortia will work together to maximize interoperability and portability for the industrial Internet.
