The U.S. firm said the solution will contribute to smart city initiatives across the region
U.S. utility technology provider Sensus has announced the launch of its utility-grade IoT communications network, FlexNet, in Middle East markets.
The firm said that FlexNet, which operates in dedicated and licenses radio spectrum, will provide security for utility data coming from critical national infrastructure, and build the foundations for pioneering smart city initiatives in the Middle East.
Sensus said that the FlexNet runs on a single platform and delivers high speed and scalable two-way communications. The solution allows utilities to remotely manage water, electric or gas service and gives the companies the visibility and control necessary to manage their networks. Sensus said that its FlexNet technology also allows utilities to remotely update/upgrade services and conduct on-demand readings.
“Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries continue to move forward with their individual smart city concepts and are looking to highlight the modernisation of their economies. As these projects proliferate, the MENA smart grid market will see steady growth in the near-to-medium term, setting the stage for a $17.8 billion cumulative market between 2015-2025, according to a report by the Northeast Group,” Tom Mills, director of the strategic customer team, EMEA & AP, for Sensus said.

FlexNet was recently selected by the U.K government as the communications infrastructure for the Great Britain smart metering programme in northern England and Scotland. This network will connect 11 million homes. Sensus has already deployed over 37 million smart points globally.
