The Swedish firm will make its IoT platform available for Telenor Pakistan’s enterprise customers
Telenor Pakistan has selected Telenor Connexion as its partner for the development of IoT services in the local market. Under the terms of the agreement, Telenor Connexion’s IoT platform will now be available to the Pakistan IoT ecosystem of startups and partners.
“Telenor Pakistan has been leading the market in innovation, for example in financial services and agriculture services. Now we want to take lead on the IoT development too, exploring the possibilities in this area and help building the IoT ecosystem in Pakistan”, said Waqar Nayyar, head of IoT at Telenor Pakistan.
The Pakistani telecoms operator said some initial examples of IoT applications in Pakistan are solar-powered home solutions enabling rural households outside of the grid to power TV sets, mobile phone chargers and other electronic devices. Other application areas are on-board diagnostics (OBD) devices for fleet management or IoT solutions integrated with insurance products to reduce the large number of motorcycle thefts.
“Asia shows the highest growth it IoT deployments, both in percentage and absolute numbers. And it’s not just China but also countries such as Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan. While the IoT development has come further in more mature markets, we now start seeing very interesting opportunities in high growth markets in Asia as well as in other regions of the world”, said Jesper Lagerstedt, partner manager at Telenor Connexion.
Telenor Connexion, part of Nordic telecoms group Telenor, designs and operates connected business solutions globally. The company offers internet of things, cloud-based, and managed connectivity solutions. The firm serves automotive, transport and logistics, asset management and remote monitoring, security and surveillance, energy management, health, and consumer electronics industries. Telenor Connexion was founded in 2008 and is based in Stockholm, Sweden.
Verizon certifies Gemalto’s IoT module
In related IoT news, Dutch digital security specialist Gemalto said its LTE Cat M1 IoT module has beed certified by Verizon.
Gemalto said these new modules will expand the use of cellular connections in applications such as security systems, points of sale, vending and eHealth solutions.
“The Cinterion LTE-M platform blends efficient connectivity and streamlined design to enable and accelerate new IoT applications and improve total cost of ownership,” said Andreas Haegele, SVP IoT Products, Gemalto.
