ADLINK intros IoT design tool to help developers “think big, start small, work fast”

ADLINK has launched an IoT design tool to help developers test the viability of their ‘internet of things’ (IoT) experiments before they put them into production. The service does away with the need for upfront investment, reducing the risk of failure, said the Taiwan based test-and-measurement specialist.

One quarter (26 per cent) of IoT projects fail, said ADLINK, after significant upfront costs have been ploughed in. ADLINK’s new DXS solution allows for digital experimentation with IoT designs before money is invested in their assembly and production.

DXS is vendor agnostic, according to its maker, and provides sundry resources to get digital experiments up and running, including pre-validated hardware, connectivity, data aggregation between IT and OT environments, enterprise sharing, endpoint management, and field and professional services.

“ADLINK DXS IoT digital experiments-as-a-service allows organisations to think big, start small and work fast when integrating IoT-based functionality within new business models or processes,” said Andy Penfold, Director of Offering Management, ADLINK IoT Solutions and Technology.

“Digital experiments combine existing elements in new ways, and the more experiments that are implemented, the more innovations are created. We believe strongly that digital experiments will form the basis of the next generation of business models and processes shaping industry landscapes. Digital experiments, whether successful or unsuccessful, are key to an effective culture of innovation.”

Penfold added: “As successful digital experiments are completed, stakeholder confidence grows, supporting the investment needed for large-scale rollouts. But, unsuccessful experiments can also provide significant value, whether uncovering design issues or revealing where to avoid further investment.”

ADLINK said its solutions take advantage of cloud, data centre and edge processing. Each IoT projects is evaluated on its own merits, it said, to determine which areas will be affected by the solution, from ground level operations to admin and resource allocation.

Penfold said: “Our service leverages technologies through all layers of the required hardware, software and network stacks to create viable, scalable and secure IoT solutions. These solutions span not only capabilities from ADLINK, but also from partners throughout our ecosystem, and are therefore agnostic in nature.”
