ADLINK offers experiments-as-a-service as ‘safe place’ to de-risk industrial IoT projects

Taiwanese IoT software and edge computing firm ADLINK Technology is making its services available for trial and experimentation, so industrial clients are not obliged to gamble on new IoT projects.

Its new ‘digital experiments-as-a-service’, commercialised as‘DXS’, provides a “safe space” for customers to test out their digital hypotheses.

“They get to discover where IoT will result in true digital transformation and high returns,” said Joe Speed, field technology chief for IoT solutions and technology at ADLINK.

The subscription-based service allows customers to determine the viability of possible solutions before they risk investment in a full solution, the company said. It quoted “industry studies” that only 26 per cent of IoT projects are successful.

ADLINK’s said its DXS offer affords enterprises all the resources required to get digital experiments up and running, including pre-validated hardware, client asset connection, data movement consolidation to bridge the IT/OT gap, enterprise sharing, endpoint management, and field and professional services.

Its DXS offers enables organisations to “think big, start small and work fast,” it said.

Andy Penfold, director of offering management for IoT solutions and technology at ADLINK, commented: “Digital experiments combine existing elements in new ways, and the more experiments that are implemented, the more innovations are created.

“We believe strongly that digital experiments will form the basis of the next generation of business models and processes shaping industry landscapes. Digital experiments, whether successful or unsuccessful, are key to an effective culture of innovation.”

He added: “As successful digital experiments are completed, stakeholder confidence grows, supporting the investment needed for large-scale rollouts. But, unsuccessful experiments can also provide significant value, whether uncovering design issues or revealing where to avoid further investment.”

Speed, speaking to Enterprise IoT Insights as part of a major report on the state of smart manufacturing, commented: “A customer has a hypothesis they need to prove, or disprove, and ADLINK offers a safe space to test these IoT hypotheses and discover where IoT will result in true digital transformation and high returns.

“DXS is a subscription-based offer that includes a package of relevant Edge hardware, data connectivity software, and services for one monthly price to enable companies to run multiple IoT experiments at once.”

The DXS solution leverages hardware, software and network stacks, as required, spanning capabilities from both ADLINK and its partners.

“We work with other vendors in the IoT space – some of which are already ecosystem partners and some who are introduced to us via the customer – to create a solution that can be evaluated at a smaller scale and them moved beyond a proof into full production if that solution proves to offer the business value that the customer is looking for,” said Speed.
