With 5G set to take over the telecommunications industry in a big way, Alpha Wireless’ wealth of experience in 3.5 GHz spectrum products is in increasingly high demand.
The GSMA last year highlighted the value of the 3.5 GHz spectrum, noting its great potential for the imminent arrival of 5G.
“For operators to be able to keep up with growing data and coverage demands new spectrum for mobile broadband is needed. The 3.5 GHz IMT range between 3.3 GHz and 3.8 GHz offers an ideal opportunity to meet this demand,” the association reported.
Mobile World Live announced recently that South Korea is the first country to simultaneously allocate the middle band (3.5 GHz) and ultra-high band (28GHz) for 5G service.
Alpha Wireless CEO and Chairman Fergal Lawlor agrees that 3.5 GHz is a strong candidate for 5G and is where many operators are looking to launch.
“The 3.5 GHz spectrum offers a significantly lower cost of ownership in many jurisdictions compared to typical mobile wireless spectrum,” Lawlor says.
“With rural subscriber densities low cost spectrum is essential for profitable service offering. In urban settings 3.5 GHz relatively short propagation characteristics makes it ideally suited for densification and fill-in without interfering with adjacent access points.”
International spectrum management authorities have been working to harmonise frequency allocations in the 3.5 GHz range over the past five years, and Lawlor says this global alignment of spectrum will provide participating jurisdictions access to a competitive ecosystem.
As an expert in the 3.5 GHz spectrum, Alpha Wireless is gearing up to meet the swift demand for the imminent arrival of 5G with antenna solutions that are superior quality, high performing and visually ambient.
“Alpha has pioneered pseudo-omni, small cell, panel/beamforming and tri-sector canister 2.5 and 3.5 GHz antenna solutions and we are proud to be considered an innovator within the industry. We’ve got 10 years’ experience in the 3.5 GHz space and concealment is our major focus. We strive to meet our customers’ requirements and where antenna solutions do not exist, we are committed to creating them to provide our customers with what they need,” Lawlor says.
Alpha Wireless’ 3.5 GHz product range covers all types of applications from standard macro coverage with our beamforming version to enhance performance to small cell and high densification in urban environments. As frequencies and demands increase we must bring the infrastructure closer to users which means improved concealment. To combat this difficult requirement Alpha Wireless has designed the CAN or Concealed Antenna Node which has the radio, backhaul and antennas (all-in-one) with minimal visual impact.
To further improve bandwidth and download speed MNO’s are now looking for infrastructure which can provide MIMO and multiple bands for carrier aggregation. Our new AW3639 small cell antenna has been designed specially for this in mind with 4 ports MB (1695-2690MHz), 2 ports 3.5 GHz and 2 ports 5 GHz. For additional optimization we have also included electrical variable tilt for the 4 ports in the MB. This antenna is supplied in a small form factor (24 x 11 x 4.7”) which enables quick planning and easy installation.
