The contract also stipulates the installation of a public safety bi-directional amplifier for the City of Edmonton
Canadian firm Westcan Advanced Communications Solutions has signed a contract with the City of Edmonton that covers the design and and implementation of a public safety bi-directional amplifier (BDA) and a distributed antenna system.
Westcan said that these systems will provide extended coverage within existing buildings as well as below-grade light rail transit (LRT) tunnels and platforms within the City of Edmonton.
Apart from the design and implementation of the systems, the contract also includes the provision of the systems, ongoing maintenance, technical and non-technical support, and enhanced services of in-building and below-grade radio coverage via DAS.
The company highlighted that the public safety DAS will support the migration and operations of Edmonton Protective Services organizations to the Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System (AFRRCS), a 700 MHz P25 public safety radio system. Westcan said it will be providing idDAS ? an intelligent digital fiber DAS solution from Cobham Wireless? — that can route capacity around multiple sites, campuses and events while simultaneously increasing the performance and cost-effectiveness of the DAS.
For this project, Westcan ACS has partnered with the Chermik Group, which provides turn-key electrical, power distribution and telecommunications systems, including rail substation and signals equipment installation, power distribution and substation power systems construction, fiber optic design, installation and fusion splicing, and UPS System design and deployment.
