Through IoT Connect Anywhere, Orange Business Services provides connectivity for energy management, on-site tracking, waste control and smart cities
Orange Business Services has launched a new offering in the enterprise internet of things segment.
The new solution, dubbed IoT Connect Anywhere, is a low-power wide-area network (LPWA) connectivity offering based on LoRa technology. IoT Connect Anywhere provides on-premise connectivity suitable for a range of applications, including energy and fluid management, on-site tracking, geo-fencing, waste control, environmental metering, lighting and parking monitoring in smart cities, the French company said.
Through IoT Connect Anywhere, enterprise customers will have access to scalable end-to-end connectivity between devices and a data management platform, Orange Business Services said, adding that the new offering does not require any major hardware investment.
The solution also relies on the Orange Business Services’ Datavenue IoT and analytics platform, which is designed to collect, analyze and turn raw data into actionable insights.
Datavenue, which was launched in October 2016, is a modular IoT and analytics solution; Orange said that it offers a full range of certified and tested connected objects, such as sensors, cameras or modules to connect existing assets. Datavenue has a catalog of data that includes population movement analytics using anonymized data from mobile networks.
IoT Connect Anywhere also offers secure transport between the gateway and the network and data delivery over HTTPS, so that all communications between the browser and the website are encrypted, according to Orange.
Orange said that it is currently running IoT Connect Anywhere for a U.S.-based multi-national oil and gas company across its campus for mobile asset tracking and asset management. The campus has extensive underground tunneling, and mobile assets are tracked via a LoRa-enabled GPS tracker using a private LoRaWAN when outside the tunnel system. By integrating the solution into the existing operational platform, the customer can continuously carry out tracking and geo-fence alerting, Orange said.
“To achieve its full potential, IoT requires flexible deployment and secure, seamless connectivity. As part of the group’s strategy, IoT Connect Anywhere satisfies these requirements by removing the complexity of connecting IoT devices. It provides our customers with end-to-end connectivity, covering every step of their data journey,” said Olivier Ondet, senior vice president, IoT and analytics for Orange Business Services.
