Dell, FacilityConneX collaborate in smart building IoT project

Real-time facility data monitoring company FacilityConneX announced that it will collaborate with Dell Technologies to bring smart building technology to its campus in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

FacilityConneX highlighted that the project will provide real-time monitoring, fault detection and diagnostics and ongoing monitoring-based commissioning for a 313,679 square foot building and its more than 600 assets, including chillers, boilers and HVAC equipment.

Built on Dell?s IoT Edge Gateway and FacilityConneX?s Intelligent Building Solution, powered by GE Digital?s Predix portfolio, this solution will be used to drive corporate initiatives that propel energy savings, sustain operational efficiency and increase occupancy comfort within its facilities, the company said.

Under this project, FacilityConneX will carry out reporting measurements, verification of energy reduction and identification of energy conservation measures (ECMs) to local utility Eversource. For additional cost savings, Dell Technologies will also work with Eversource to evaluate energy conservation findings and identify additional incentives for the company.

?The project started in early 2019 and was producing real-time results by mid-February when Dell personnel were trained in their FCX First Look Milestone. They are now in FacilityConneX’s continuous commissioning phase called FCXperience where results are prioritized with our experts and acted upon. In the next few months the first set of energy conservation measures will be submitted to utility company Eversource,? a spokesperson at FacilityConneX?s told In-Building Tech.

?The incorporation of IoT solutions and increased utilization of real-time analytics is an initiative that we have not only made available to our customers, but something we leverage for the advancement of Dell facilities as well,? said Paul Fitzgerald, vice president of facilities management at Dell.

?Real-time data monitoring technologies have become a necessity instead of a luxury as the burgeoning IoT continues to carve a prominent role in the manufacturing and commercial sectors. Big data grants facilities with the information they need that, when coupled with intelligent monitoring platforms which provide transparency and actionable feedback, enables facility operators to perform more efficiently and cost effective,? Fitzgerald said.

?Facilities like our Hopkinton campus use this data to establish monitoring-based commissioning and take a much more proactive approach. The FacilityConneX platform interprets all of the data and can then determine both critical issues that need to be addressed immediately, as well as potential issues that can be mitigated with proactive action. Simultaneously, the real-time data monitoring platform is able to provide an overview across multiple systems, delivering real time alerts for assets, HVAC equipment, boilers, chillers and more ? all consolidated into one smart platform,? he added.

?We are thrilled to be working alongside Dell Technologies on this project as we believe this combination of the FacilityConneX platform and Dell?s IoT Edge Gateway will significantly enhance the campus? operational efficiency and will enable smart building operations,? said Mark Pipher, VP and GM of FacilityConneX.

FacilityConneX is a real-time data monitoring solution and service provider for building operators and facility managers looking to enhance operational efficiency, IIoT equipment optimization and energy savings through ongoing commissioning, fault detection, diagnostics and advanced predictive analytics.
