Distributed antenna system OEM Advanced RF Technologies (ADRF has joined the O-RAN Alliance.
The O-RAN Alliance?s objective is to develop architectures and specifications to promote the adoption of open standards and interfaces, embedded intelligence, software-based functions, and white box hardware for radio access networks. This focus on interoperability is aimed at simplifying RAN virtualization and ultimately, driving down network costs.
The group, which was officially formed in 2018, believes that future Radio Access Networks will be “built on a foundation of virtualized network elements, white-box hardware and standardized interfaces that fully embrace O-RAN?s core principles of intelligence and openness.”
ADRF said that this aligns with the firm?s strategic goals and 5G product roadmap to deliver flexible and affordable in-building wireless connectivity solutions for enterprises.

Advanced RF Technologies is a provider of in-building wireless solutions that ensure connectivity in venues. Its product portfolio includes DAS, repeaters, antennas and passive components.
On the carrier side, O-RAN membership includes some of the biggest global service providers among them all four major U.S. operators and multi-national carriers like Telefonica and Orange. Vendor membership runs the gamut from silicon interests to software providers and major infrastructure vendors like Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung and ZTE.
In April, O-RAN Alliance and the Linux Foundation launched an O-RAN open source software community.
