Nokia has signed a contract with Argentine telecom operator Telecom Argentina, which would allow the operator to offer IoT services to its enterprise customers in its home market and across Latin America using Nokia’s Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING), Nokia said in a release.
Telecom Argentina claims to be the first company in the country to close a deal with Nokia to offer IoT services to its enterprise customers using the fully virtualized and future-proofed WING infrastructure, offered as a managed service, which will allow companies to launch IoT services.
According to the GSMA, the number of IoT connections will reach 25 billion connections worldwide until 2025. Latin American IoT revenue is expected to grow and be worth over $47 billion by the same year.
Nokia said that its WING technology will provide Telecom Argentina’s customers with strategic opportunities ensuring the implementation of suitable solutions to various industry verticals that seek for IoT services in Argentina including automotive, agriculture, utilities, finance and services.
Nokia’s IMPACT platform will provide device management functionality as part of the overall WING solution.

Telecom Argentina offers fixed and mobile telephony, data transmission, pay TV and Internet services for individuals, companies and governments throughout Argentina. It also provides mobile services in Paraguay and pay TV in Uruguay.
In December 2019, Nokia inked a contract with Brazilian telecommunications operator TIM to provide IoT services to its enterprise customers in Brazil. This deal was Nokia’s first IoT contract in Latin America.
During Mobile World Congress 2019, Nokia expanded its WING offering with IoT applications for operators to address new vertical markets.
The four new solutions announced by Nokia last year include smart agriculture as-a-service, livestock management as-a-service, logistics as-a-service and asset management as-a-service.
