Telecoms provider and broadcaster Teracom has said it will use radio and cloud products from Ericsson as it starts to roll out LTE and 5G in the 450 MHz band in Sweden. Teracom will offer critical-grade LTE and 5G to public and private national critical infrastructure enterprises.
State-owned Teracom will offer nationwide LTE services in the 450MHz band in Sweden, starting this quarter (Q2 2020). It will utilize Ericsson’s radio access network and cloud-based core networking products, as well as transport solutions and security gateways, including from Juniper Networks.
These offer an upgrade path to 5G. Ericsson said Teracom is seeking offer “secure and reliable mobile connections, including IoT, for critical infrastructure such as electric and water utilities”.
The 450 MHz band enables wider reach and propagation and is well suited for remote location sites and utilities such as electric and water. The new network will begin to be rolled out in Q2 2020.
Ericsson’s claims it’s radio network is the “most powerful”, and best value (“per gigabyte”), and for efficient upgrade to 5G.
Åsa Sundberg, chief executive at Teracom, said: “Robust and secure communications are an essential component of a digital society. Ericsson’s technology gives us the possibility to offer our customers reliable connections, as well as securing a potential path towards 5G.”
Jenny Lindqvist, vice president and head of northern and central Europe at Ericsson, said “With a modernized 4G network, Teracom will be able to grow and support an increasingly digitalized society in Sweden and provide their clients with the security and reliable uptime they demand. This new network will be the backbone for many vital services across the country.”
Teracom acquired the Swedish part of the telecom operator Net1 a year ago, inheriting its operations at 450 MHz.
