Beijing Mobile and China Tower have recently completed the deployment of a 5G network at Beijing Capital International Airport, Chinese press reported.
The 5G network, which is already fully-operational, allows 240,000 people to simultaneously use internet at high speeds.
The new network covers all areas of Terminals 1, 2, and 3 of the airport, as well as parking buildings.
Since the start of the 10-month project in December 2019, Beijing Mobile and China Tower have closely cooperated to build a total of 101 indoor and outdoor wireless base stations.
On-site testing shows that the airport’s average 5G download speeds can reach up to 1 Gbps. Beijing Mobile has set up office branches in both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 to provide passengers with various mobile business services.
China Tower was formed in 2014, when the country?s mobile carrier China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom transferred their telecom towers to the new company. As of the end of September, China Tower managed a total of 2.02 million tower sites
Beijing Daxing International Airport, which is the city?s second international airport, is already fully covered with 5G technology. The airport started commercial operations in September of last year.
Beijing has become the second city in China to achieve full coverage of 5G technology.
As of the end of July, Chinese operators had installed a total of 44,000 5G base stations across the city, and the figure is expected to reach 50,000 by the end of 2020, according to the Chinese government
Currently, there are over 5.06 million 5G users in Beijing.
By June, the total number of 5G base stations in Beijing had reached 22,500. The city will also boost the development of 5G applications, such as unmanned vehicles.
In August, the municipal government of Shenzhen announced that the city?s? 5G deployment was fully completed. With the deployment of almost 46,500 5G base stations, Shenzhen became the first city in China to to achieve full-scale 5G deployment.
Shenzhen, a southern tech hub in Guangdong Province, was one of the first pilot cities of the 5G network in China.
