Manx Telecom rebrands roaming division as OV to serve ‘expanding’ IoT demand

UK mobile operator Manx Telecom has rebranded its global solutions division as OV to serve the IoT market, alongside its established global mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) and travel SIM business. The firm, based on the Isle of Man, between England and Ireland, is offering cellular IoT via roaming deals with 600-odd operators in 170 countries.

The name OV is derived from ‘Of Vannin’, the ancient word for the Isle of Man. Its global solutions division was set up 10 years ago to build partnerships outside of the island. The company said it has around five million SIMs connecting IoT solutions around the world, installed in health trackers, medical devices, connected cars, and smart traffic management systems.

The company said it has seen “rapid expansion” and increasing demand for cellular IoT connectivity, particularly to enable remote management of machines processes, controls, and automation. Its newly-branded OV SIMS can be combined with voice services, it said, which has seen interest from the healthcare sector, to enable direct communications with IoT users.

Manx Telecom is offering an IoT device and connectivity management platform under the OV brand, alongside, affording a flexible multi-tenant architecture for customers to choose distributor and reseller partners. The company continues to offer a range of MVNE and MVNO connectivity services via its new OV division.

Sutha Siva, chief operating officer at Manx Telecom and chief executive of OV, said: “IoT offers consumers and businesses endless possibilities that can improve how we live and work. Our mission is to deliver the most appropriate connectivity solutions for customers’ IoT ecosystems so they can leverage the full potential of IoT and benefit from transformational productivity gains as a result.

“Using OV’s portfolio of tools, services and products, combined with our expertise in successfully innovating, designing, and deploying IoT connectivity, we have been gearing up for growth in the IoT connectivity space and continue to invest heavily in our core infrastructure and network reach. We remain laser-focused on truly collaborating with our partners to deliver the best outcomes.”
