Veolia Water Technologies, the digital solutions arm of French utility services company Veolia, is working with Orange Business Services, the global enterprise division of France-based telecoms operator Orange, to bring new analytics and security to its Hubgrade water cycle management platform.
The pair will develop “innovative digital services for its customers worldwide”, they said. Orange Business Services claimed it will provide, precisely, “25 types of expertise”, including around the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), plus separately data analytics, and also cloud and cybersecurity services.
The collaboration will translate to “new monitoring and analysis features to optimize the technical, economic and environmental performance of our customers’ water treatment facilities”, the pair said. They have jointly defined a co-innovation project around the development of a universal multi-protocol, multi-connectivity IoT gateway.
They are also looking at projects around machine Learning services at the edge, they said, without clarifying specifically whether the ‘edge’ is on the IoT devices, in the enterprise, or in the local cloud centre or network, or all of the above. The Hubgrade product is a visualisation platform for utilities and municipalities to remotely manage data related to water treatment plants and equipment.
Vincent Caillaud, chief executive at Veolia Water Technologies, said: “This collaboration… allows us to offer our customers an intuitive and innovative window into their facilities. More importantly, it allows us… to multiply monitoring and analysis features and optimize the technical, economic, and environmental performance of their equipment… It facilitates the management and implementation of the demanding, innovative. and ambitious roadmap that we have set for ourselves in the service of our clients.”
Aliette Mousnier-Lompré, chief executive at Orange Business Services, said: “This project is unique in terms of its size and technological complexity, and our teams were able to cover the entire scope from business data collection to digital solutions to support Veolia Water Technologies solve their needs. We are committed to a process of co-innovation and co-construction with Veolia Water Technologies to develop efficient and secure platforms.”
