Wi-Fi OpenRoaming allows for seamless Wi-Fi onboarding from location to location without the need for logins or passwords
Systems integrator TecExpert Brasil has introduced OpenRoaming Wi-Fi hotspots at the Teatro Gazeta theater in São Paulo, announced the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA).
OpenRoaming, developed by Cisco and now controlled by WBA, allows for seamless Wi-Fi onboarding from location to location without the need for logins or passwords while maintaining enterprise-grade security and privacy. Currently, WBA OpenRoaming is available at more than 3 million hotspots worldwide, including the São Paulo airport.
The Teatro Gazeta deployment utilizes eight Cambium XV and XE-Series, three of which are Wi-Fi 6E enabled. Theater goers can now more easily connect to Wi-Fi for all sorts of things while out in the lobby. “Fast, secure Wi-Fi enhances the theater experience by making it quick, easy and safe for our patrons to share what they’re seeing and feeling with friends and family. Their social media posts help generate and sustain a buzz around our events and grow awareness of all we have to offer,” said Roberto Silva, the managing director at Teatro Gazeta.

The OpenRoaming standard allows a user to join any network managed by any provider within the established trusted federation of providers. The network is then able to automatically authenticate devices by using established identity providers, such as a service provider, device manufacturer, cloud ID or even loyalty memberships. According to the WBA, the OpenRoaming standard also enables enterprises, device OEMs, service providers and others to provide performance guarantees.
TecExpert, which specializes in wireless solutions for enterprises and mission-critical applications, also provided OpenRoaming at Futurecom, Latin America’s largest technology event earlier this month. The company also provided the first Wi-Fi 6E demo in Brazil and is a member of WBA and Telecom Infra Project (TIP).
“We have great plans for OpenRoaming in Brasil, to make public Wi-Fi secure and seamless for all,” commented Leonardo Luis Slaviero, TecExpert Brasil founder and CTO, adding that the next steps for Sao Paulo include a municipal public Wi-Fi project and hotspots at an unnamed major sporting event.
