SK Telecom boosts AI agent ‘adot’ with Gemini 2.0 Flash

SK Telecom plans to continue integrating Google’s latest language models into its adot AI agent

Korean telco SK Telecom announced a major upgrade to its AI agent adot, integrating Google’s latest large language model, Gemini 2.0 Flash.

Korean press reported that this latest update will enable users to have access to a broader selection of AI models across five global AI platforms: SKT’s A.X, GPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. In total, 12 AI models are now available, according to the reports.

‘Gemini 2.0 Flash,’ launched by Google in February, brings improvements in speed and performance. It has demonstrated twice the response speed of its predecessor, Pro 1.5, in benchmark tests while also enhancing answer reliability through real-time search integration and direct navigation to source pages, the reports added.

With this upgrade, SK Telecom plans to continue integrating Google’s latest language models into its adot AI agent. Additionally, the telco is enhancing the AI agent’s functionality by incorporating Perplexity Sonar Pro and GPT o3-mini, which are extremely helpful in solving complex logical problems and advanced mathematical equations.

Kim Yong-hoon, head of SKT’s ‘adot’ business division, said: “adot is the best platform for comparing and utilizing various global AI models, from A.X to ChatGPT. We will continue expanding our AI offerings and improving user convenience to enhance the overall experience.”

In January, SK Telecom announced plans to release a beta version of “Aster,” targeting North American users in March 2025.

The Asian telecom provider initially introduced the AI agent at the SK AI Summit in Seoul last November, but it officially began recruiting beta testers at CES, with a broader U.S. launch set for later in the year.

Aster is designed as an ‘agentic AI,’ which goes beyond simple Q&A or search functions by understanding users’ intentions to set goals, make plans and complete tasks on their behalf, the telco said.

The AI agent, built on generative AI technology, integrates conversational search through a collaboration with Perplexity, a next-generation AI search platform. Aster focuses on life management, offering users personalized planning, execution, reminders and advice, according to the telco.

SK Telecom had previously reorganized its operations into seven key divisions, with a strong focus on AI. This includes specialized units such as AI Transformation (AIX), AIDC, A. (A-Dot) and Global Personal AI Agent (GPAA).

In 2023, SK Telecom had announced its ambition to become a global artificial intelligence company by strengthening its own AI competitiveness and cooperating with partners globally.
