Verizon Wireless suffered a glitch in its online bill-paying service that allowed some subscribers to see details on other subscribers. Verizon spokesman Tom Pica said the carrier learned of the problem earlier this week and had it fixed by Thursday.
“There’s some minor issues, and we corrected it quickly,” Pica said.
The glitch allowed users to see information on other users, including how many minutes they had used and how many they had remaining, as well as the city and state where they used their phones and the kind of phones they used. Pica said no critical data was available, such as billing and payment information.
Verizon is not the first carrier to suffer such glitches. Hackers also have broken into the systems of T-Mobile USA Inc. and NTT DoCoMo Inc. in Japan.
