Verizon Wireless, Sprint expand music offerings

Verizon Wireless and Sprint PCS expanded their mobile music offerings this week with two announcements.

Verizon Wireless will team with Clear Channel Entertainment Properties to broadcast clips from the Latin music concert tour Juntos en Concierto. The carrier will deliver video from three concert dates featuring Marc Anthony, Chayanne and other Latin music stars.

Vcast subscribers will be able to access the footage for a week free through Verizon’s Encore Channel.

“Wireless is the future of digital entertainment, and the concert clips on Vcast have been a huge hit so far,” said Bruce Eskowitz, president of Clear Channel Entertainment Products. “This latest concert tour is a great opportunity to provide fans with exciting entertainment, and we look forward to doing more.”

Meanwhile, MSpot Music Radio Tuesday said its streaming music service now is available on Java-enabled handsets. MSpot, which is available exclusively through Sprint for $6 a month, delivers 17 channels of commercial-free streaming music, as well as reviews, celebrity news and interviews.

The service also allows users to buy ringtones, screensavers and CDs from their handsets.

“With the number of Java-based mobile-phone users reaching well over 120 million and climbing, the demand for multimedia content geared toward these devices has also increased,” said Daren Tsui, MSpot’s chief executive officer.
