HONG KONG-Motorola Inc. opened research and design centers in Bangalore, India, and Taipei, Taiwan, aiming to boost technology development in Asia-Pacific markets. The new centers will focus on optimal solutions for seamless mobility in telecom switching, embedded communications, broadband and ultra-wideband wireless solutions.
The Bangalore center will house the research and development teams of Motorola’s Core Networks division and Embedded Communications Computing, both part of Motorola Networks. The center’s focus will be to work on new telecom switching technologies and products across CDMA and GSM/UMTS networks, as well as develop products for a new class of computer-the communications server. Motorola said that by maximizing the benefits of open standards, the communications servers will enable equipment manufacturers to deliver new products and services to market faster, accelerating the seamless mobility environment.
“This new R&D center in Bangalore demonstrates the importance Motorola places on the Indian market. Our goal is to remain at the forefront of developing multimedia solutions that seamlessly combine voice, data, and video,” said Simon Leung, regional president of Motorola Asia Pacific.
The Taiwan Technology Center in Taipei will focus on developing Motorola’s broadband and wireless initiatives including ultra-wideband solutions. Motorola said the new center will provide greater cost efficiencies and streamline the worldwide delivery of Motorola Connected Home applications and solutions to its customers.
“The Taiwan Technology Center is a vital link to the overall development of Motorola’s Connected Home solutions, which are tailored to customer needs in the region. As the market for digital video and wireless technologies continues to grow, the R&D center will ensure Motorola remains in the cutting edge of both development and delivery of these solutions,” said Leung.
