PORTLAND, Ore.-Enhanced directory-assistance provider Metro One Telecommunications Inc. said it closed two call centers in May and expects to close an additional nine call centers by the end of this summer as part of a corporatewide program to cut costs.
One of the nine call centers will be closed by the end of this month, with the additional eight scheduled to close by the end of August. Call volume will be transferred to the company’s remaining 20 call centers.
Metro One said it expects its ongoing cost-cutting programs to save it about $24 million a year. The company expects to record a restructuring charge related to the facility closures during the second and third quarters of this year.
Metro One earlier this month announced Alltel Communications opted not to renew a contract with the company to provide enhanced directory-assistance services to its customers.
