Cingular, Sprint bolster music offerings

ATLANTA and NEW YORK-Cingular Wireless has added Gwen Stefani to its portfolio, offering several new ringtones including a 30-second master tone from the singer’s hit “Hollaback Girl.”

The carrier will offer two ringtone versions of the hit single as well as clips from two other tunes for $2.50 each. The agreement marks the first time Stefani content is available for wireless, Cingular said.

An animated video clip of the tune is also being promoted, although the video is available only on the Internet and cannot be downloaded to a handset.

“This latest venture into the wireless arena will allow (Stefani) to reach a new fan base and continue to share her talents across many mediums,” said Courtney Holt, head of new media and strategic marketing at Interscope Geffen A&M.

Sprint announced the availability of music tones featuring actual song clips from the most popular shows on Broadway. Sprint PCS Vision customers can hear music from “Wicked,” “Chicago,” “Avenue Q,” “The Producers” and more.

“Sprint customers are downloading music to their wireless phones at a phenomenal rate,” said Jeff Hallock, vice president of product marketing and strategy at Sprint. “As a proud partner of Live Broadway, we’re glad to offer an extensive line-up of Broadway show tunes as Music Tones through our Sprint PCS Vision service. Broadway fans join the masses of music enthusiasts who enjoy personalizing their phone with their favorite tunes.”
