SAN FRANCISCO- The California Public Utilities Commission awarded five groups $38,613 for their advocacy in a CPUC decision last April that allowed AT&T Corp. to acquire McCaw Cellular Communications Inc.
The Latino Issues Forum, Chinese for Affirmative Action, San Francisco Black Chamber of Commerce, Mexican-American Political Association and American G.I. Forum worked to assure minority and poor households and minority small businesses could benefit from access to information and data services following the merger.
Individuals and groups not associated with the CPUC that also have made substantial contributions to the result of the proceeding and can show financial hardship will be reimbursed.
AT&T-McCaw has been ordered to pay the money within 30 days plus interest accrued since Aug. 28.
