KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.-InterDigital Communications Corp. said the German Federal Patent Court upheld the company’s patent relating to wireless digital radio communications systems using Time Division Multiple Access technology.
InterDigital won the patent in 1991, but it was opposed by Standard Elektrik Lorenz, Siemens Aktiengesellschaft and Philips Patentverwaltung Gmbh.
“The decision was particularly pleasing in that the patent at issue was the foreign counterpart to the U.S. Patent No. 4,675,863 that a lay jury had found invalid in a U.S. lawsuit brought by Motorola,” said Harry Campagna, InterDigital’s chairman.
InterDigital said the German decision, which was made by a panel of judges with significant technical expertise, enhances the company’s belief that the U.S. jury failed to understand the technical issues involved with the patent.
