DENVER-An Aspen, Colo., city council member said he is reviewing a new ordinance passed earlier this year in a Cleveland, Ohio, suburb that regulates cellular phone use while driving.
Councilman Terry Paulson thinks such an ordinance would prevent traffic accidents. The Brooklyn, Ohio, ordinance makes it punishable by a fine to talk on a cellular phone while driving unless both hands are on the steering wheel.
Emergency calls, using the phone while the transmission is in park or talking via speaker phones are exceptions to the ordinance.
According to press reports, Brooklyn has received more than 60 requests for copies of the proposal from cities across the country.
