CULVER CITY, Calif.-DSI Technology Inc. said it will begin selling its new Adserver Internet platform at the Personal Communications Showcase in New Orleans this week.
The Adserver allows paging carriers to offer customers what DSI calls “Totally Free Paging.” Integrated into an existing paging terminal, the Adserver sends both local and national ads to customers along with each page sent. The sponsored messaging allows customers to receive pages for free.
Even the pager is free. Participating carriers allow free use of the pager in return for a deposit, which is refunded when the pager is returned.
DSI has several advertising partners that have agreed to sponsor the paging service in return for broadcast advertising.
The Adserver also keeps a record of demographic information to focus ads to targeted customers, based on customer profiles collected by carriers when signing on a new customer.
Russ Colby, DSI’s vice president, said the targeted advertising model allows carriers to increase revenues as paging traffic increases. The greater the number of pages sent, the more revenue the carrier receives, he said.
Other products from DSI include the Digifax fax-to-e-mail service, as well as Internet data routers, billing systems and paging terminals.
