DT plans to offer data on mobile phones

BONN, Germany-Deutsche Telekom AG reportedly will combine its Internet service provider and cellular phone units to offer mobile data services on cellular phones via the Internet.

Deutsche Telekom’s ISP, T-Online, is said to be Europe’s biggest with 4.2 million customers. T-Mobil, the company’s mobile phone division, has approximately 16 million customers in Europe and an additional 3 million customers through a Russian subsidiary and joint ventures in Eastern Europe and Russia.

The company reportedly is joining with online broker Direkt Anlage Bank to offer mobile phone customers share trading via their phones using Wireless Application Protocol technology.

Deutsche Telekom is said to be considering an initial public offering of 10 percent of T-Online’s share capital in mid-April and is contemplating an IPO of T-Mobil.
