To the Editor:
Suggestion on the engineering shortage: Kill all the parents of potential engineering students so we won’t discuss the outsourcing of our jobs. You really can’t motivate a college kid to study engineering if mom/dad get laid off and work themselves down the ladder of un-success. The broadband-rich countries of India and Eastern Europe can build a lot of infrastructure to attract U.S. companies who want $50,000-per-year jobs but want to pay $12,000 per year. Southwestern Bell, then MCI and now Alltel. I’m trying to return to the wages I last earned in 1993.
Microsoft is trying to encourage software enrollment so they can harvest the 1/2 of 1/2 of 1/1,000 of a percent that they will employ stateside. Ask them the total number of Indian and Chinese software engineers they use.
