ThinAirApps offers new device server

NEW YORK-ThinAirApps L.L.C. released its ThinAirServer 1.1, which permits two-way, real-time information access to a range of out-of-the-box applications from a variety of wireless devices.

The new platform is compatible with any Palm VII handheld, any Palm III or Palm V with Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol connectivity or OmniSky service, any Research in Motion interactive pager with a Wireless Application Protocol browser and any Internet-enabled mobile phone.

The ThinAirServer 1.1 is designed to enable mobile-device users to communicate with applications from groupware and messaging platforms like Microsoft Exchange Server, Lotus Domino Server or any Internet Messaging Access Protocol or Post Office Protocol mail system.

The functionality allows remote wireless interactive access to electronic mail in-boxes and calendars, public and private folders, server-side address books and to-do lists.

The 1.1 server includes enhancements to provide “secure, scalable and redundant deployment in complex network and firewall configurations,” ThinAirApps said.

In conjunction with its debut of the platform, the company released its new wireless software development kit for ThinAir Server. Software developers using Sun Microsystems Inc.’s Java technology can create applications using the wireless SDK without “having to become experts in each device’s operating system, programming or markup language and network protocols,” ThinAirApps said.
