BT to launch broadband satellite service in November

LONDON—BTopenworld said it will launch a two-way satellite service to deliver broadband access to homes and small and medium-sized businesses in rural areas of the United Kingdom in November. The service will initially be available to customers in the Highlands and islands of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
BTopenworld will partner with Gilat to offer the service.
“The launch of our satellite service will meet the demand for always-on, high-speed Internet services for businesses in more remote locations, while extended reach will now mean more than 90 percent of customers connected to an enabled exchange will be able to access broadband technology,” said Andy Green, BTopenworld chief executive officer.
