Court sides with Telemac in patent infringement claim

LOS ANGELES—USIntellicom’s prepaid wireless system infringes Telemac Corp.’s patent for a network-independent prepaid billing system, according to a recent Federal District Court ruling.

Pre-Cell Solutions Inc. and its subsidiaries, USIntellicom and Pre-Paid Solutions, were ordered to pay damages of $7.4 million plus litigation costs to Telemac. The court said it will now consider a permanent injunction that will prohibit continuing infringement and require all phones containing infringing software be deactivated.

“This ruling demonstrates that no Johnny-come-lately can arrogantly take Telemac’s inventions, undercut Telemac’s pricing, and deprive Telemac’s inventors and investors of a return for their genius and risk,” said Kenin M. Spivak, Telemac’s chairman and chief executive officer.
