Mexico passes 10% telecom tax

MEXICO CITY—Mexico passed a 10-percent telecommunications tax that will directly affect mobile operators with postpaid clients. Iusacell, which has a high number of postpaid customers, will be the most harshly affected.

Telcel, the country’s largest operator, will also be affected. But because 93 percent of its customers are prepaid, which are not affected by the tax, its impact will be less than Iusacell, the country’s second-largest carrier.
