ARLINGTON, Va.—International corporate IT industry spending on wireless applications will reach $680,000, a 94-percent increase from 2001 spending, according to a new report from the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) and the Wireless IT Research Group (WIRG).
According to the study, 51 percent of firms reported increasing their wireless budgets in 2002. The study found that wireless e-mail is the most commonly used wireless application and is now used by 36 percent of firms surveyed, with 49 percent of firms planning to provide it in the future. The next most popular wireless application is wireless Internet/intranet access, with 81 percent of firms surveyed currently use or are planning to use it.
The survey also found security is the most common concern for companies implementing wireless solutions, and more than half of the companies asked said they required 112 kilobits per second or higher for their wireless applications.
The 40-question Web-based survey was completed by 336 companies, a majority of which classified themselves as systems integrators or IT consulting companies operating in North America.
