HONG KONG—Hong Kong telecom regulator Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) said it plans to give unused spectrum to mobile operators. The unused spectrum, totaling 2.5 megahertz x 2 in three slots, will be assigned by drawing lots.
Each incumbent cellular operator would be assigned with 0.8 megahertz by 2 spectrum in the 800 MHz to 900 MHz GSM band through the lots. Personal communications services (PCS) operators, after meeting a set of eligibility criteria, would be assigned 1.6 megahertz x 2 in the 1800 MHz to 1900 MHz PCS band through the lots.
Operators are invited to apply for the unused spectrum by 8 March.
