WASHINGTON—Access Spectrum LLC, the band manager for private-wireless users, said on Thursday that it is acquiring the 220 MHz band licenses of Aerwav Inc.
“This has been our mission to accommodate private wireless in other areas of the country that we didn’t have at 700 MHz,” said Mark Crosby, Access Spectrum’s president and founder.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Access Spectrum’s existing equity partners are financing it.
Motorola Inc. and Microwave Data Systems have committed to manufacturing band-specific equipment for both the 700 MHz guard bands and the 220 MHz band, said Crosby.
While most of the 700 MHz band is encumbered with TV broadcasters, Crosby stressed that 88 percent of Access Spectrum’s 700 MHz band spectrum is unencumbered.
Channels in the 220 MHz band have been set aside to allow Aerwav to continue to service its existing customer base.
