PARIS—Three semiconductor companies announced they would forge a US$1.4 billion alliance to develop new chips with a view to cutting costs and defining standards for the industry.
The companies, Motorola of the United States, STMicroelectronics of France and Philips of the Netherlands, plan to unveil sample chips in the second half of this year.
