NEW YORK—The first open-source reference implementation for software defined radio, which allows wireless devices re-configurable by software, is now available on the Web site of the Communications Research Centre Canada at www.crc.ca/SCAreferenceimplementation.
The Java-based implementation is the result of collaboration among the Research Centre, Defence Research and Development Canada and the Software Defined Radio Forum, headquartered in New Hartford, N.Y.
“The SDR open-source reference implementation means that all SDR device makers will be playing from the same play book so that there will be interoperability within the whole wireless industry, (including) cell phone and base station makers (as well as) the emergency segment (including) the military and public safety,” said Ken Zeszutko, a spokesman for the forum.
