NEW DELHI, India—The Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) has decided to revise bidding conditions for the expansion of its CDMA services.
The earlier terms required the winning bidder to sign up at least 300,000 subscribers to the service in the first year of operation. Now the target has been reduced to 150,000 subscribers, Bangkok Post newspaper reported, quoting Kravud Koosuwan, CAT’s senior executive vice president.
The winning bidder would be required to install a total of 1,000 base stations and lease them to CAT for 12 years in return for 15 billion baht (US$349.7 million). These will have to be linked with the CDMA network being installed by Hutchison CAT Wireless Multimedia, a joint venture, in the central region.
Under the revised conditions, the winning bidder will receive 27 percent of the airtime charges per connection per month from CAT.
