Logica plans job cuts amid earnings warning

DUBLIN, Ireland—There are fears that more than 150 jobs could be lost in the Irish mobile telecom software operations of Logica after the company announced plans to lay off 700 workers following a warning of flat revenues and a fall in earnings per share this year.

While the figures for job losses in specific countries have not been confirmed, it is rumored that 40 percent of the overall software development group will be let go. With around 400 people employed in that capacity in Ireland, that could mean up to 160 positions are under threat.

In a statement, the company said trading conditions at its mobile networks division “have worsened considerably as the current half [of the year] has progressed.” Several brokerage houses and investment banks have downgraded the company in recent months.
