Samsung launches fund-raiser with sports figures, retailers

NEW YORK—Enlisting the support of four heavy hitters in professional sports and in retailing, Samsung Electronics America Inc., Ridgefield Park, N.J., launched on May 16 its “Four Seasons of Hope” fund-raiser for charity.

For the first week of the donation drive, Samsung will remove its corporate logo from its Web site and let viewers choose links to one of four non-profit organizations—the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women in Orlando, Fla.; the Boomer Esiason Foundation to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis; the Joe Torre Family Foundation to support women and children exposed to domestic violence; and the Magic Johnson Foundation, which will receive Samsung support for technology centers, scholarship programs and other efforts to improve the lives of inner-city children.

Joining Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope as retailer partners are Best Buy for basketball, CompUSA for golf, Sears for football and Radio Shack for baseball. The sports celebrities involved will help publicize “Four Seasons of Hope” promotions in which the retail chains will make donations to their charity when customers buy particular products.
