Sage publishes findings of enterprise WLAN report

NATICK, Mass.-Sage Research Inc. announced the publication of findings from the August 5, 2002, Sage Technology Roundtable “WLANs in the Enterprise,” which covered topics including security, mobile wide area network connectivity, hot spot providers, and reasons for wireless local area networks in companies.

Among the participants, most do not rely on WEP security alone; health care and finance companies are more likely to pay premiums for advanced proprietary security features, while manufacturers are likely to wait for standards to evolve; none use IPSec VPN clients for added security because they either see no need or are concerned with bandwidth implications; there is value in seamless 3G/WLAN service for mobile WAN connectivity but security is a major concern; none use WLAN hot spot providers; and increased employee productivity, convenience and lower costs are main drivers for adopting WLANs.
