DUBLIN, Ireland-U.K. telecom regulator Oftel has launched a guide designed to help consumers get maximum value for money from their mobile phones. The document offers advice on a range of issues, including choosing between prepaid and contract payments, controlling call costs and moving between operators.
With half a million mobile phones being sold in the United Kingdom between February and May 2002, Oftel Director General David Edmonds said the guide will help new customers make the right choices.
The guide will be available from libraries or directly from Oftel via its website www.oftel.gov.uk. More than 100,000 guides will be stocked in the stores of mobile retailers Vodafone and The Link, and other retailers are expected to offer the document to customers during the coming months.
U.S. regulator Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a consumer handbook for U.S. wireless users in June with information on coverage, pricing and handsets.
