LONDON-A U.K. company has launched a recycling program for the country’s mobile phones. All five of the country’s mobile operators, along with several retailers, have pledged support to the program called Fonebak.
The United Kingdom discards about 15 million handsets every year, with handsets being replaced about once every one to two years. The program will send the phones to other countries for reuse or recycle them for parts.
Shields Environmental is overseeing the program. The U.K. environmental minister said he is pleased with the program.
