TOKYO-Omron, a pioneer in automated control equipment service, announced it would launch a new service that would see its contracted stores produce prints of pictures taken by mobile phones. Omron will launch the new service in the Tokyo and Osaka areas by the end of this month, targeting to launch nationwide service in April.
Users of the service will send the data to a printing machine set up at convenience stores and discount consumer electronics stores from their mobile phones via cable or memory sticks. Omron plans to set up the printing machine at 3,000 areas by the end of March 2004 targeting to have 1.5 billion yen (US$12.5 million) in sales. The cost for each photo print would be 200 yen (US$1.67).
