BellSouth files patent lawsuit against Glenayre, Call Sciences

ATLANTA-BellSouth filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Glenayre Technologies Inc. and Call Sciences Inc. alleging that the companies are infringing on BellSouth’s patent on call routing technology, used for “one number service” offerings.

“We are committed to maximizing the value of our intellectual property, and when necessary, we will take appropriate action to ensure that our patents are properly enforced,” said Scott Frank, president of BellSouth Intellectual Property Marketing Corp.

Glenayre’s response was that the allegations are without merit. “We are surprised that BellSouth would use this patent, which we believe to be of questionable validity and value, and the associated allegations, which we believe to be without merit, as the basis for their patent enforcement strategy,” said Eric Doggett, president and chief executive officer of Glenayre.

This is the first patent infringement lawsuit BellSouth has filed.
